Large War Relief Noah's Ark 60 Animals + Mr & Mrs Noah With Letterpress Display Cabinet
Infrequently seen in this size, this wonderful War Relief Noah's ark has charm and the wow factor for any collector or designer.
The ark and shelves weighing in together at 4.70 kg, this lovely piece shows all the signs of being loved and played with.
Made by wounded soldiers from the 1914-1918 war by the Charity War Relief Toy Works of Stoke Newington, North London which had been set up to rehabilitate the soldiers back into work. The arks were their most popular toy, some were painted and some were left plain for the new owners to paint themselves.
They became so well known for their toy manufacture that they exhibited in the British Industries fair in 1922 & 1929.
The set includes the ark and animals plus vintage letterpress to hold the animals.
The Ark on it's own measures a height of 42cm and length 70cm, and the letterpress a height of 36.5cm and length of 83cm, so as we said this is a beast, and even better, the lid lifts to store all of your animals, and Mr & Mrs Noah, inside from the flood.
This highly desirable set contains the figures and animals which came with it, 60 animals plus Noah and his wife, set within a vintage letterpress printers tray.....just so that the animals don't run off ! and of course Noah and his wife keeping an eye over them too.
