19th Century Boy Medical Skin Disease Watercolour Painting
An original medical skin disease painting of a boy.
This is so clear and beautifully painted in watercolours, and the boy has such a sweet face.
The "boy" is actually Lorenzo West and was 11 years old when he was painted in 1892 in quite fancy clothes, in his best bow tie.
The colours are still bright and realistic.
It was probably the original painting which would then be used to copy into prints to go in medical journals for diagnosing.
Written on the back alongside "No 153" is the stamp of Bristol Boards, which were named after Frederick Hervey, 4th Earl of Bristol, a prolific art collector and not the city of Bristol UK and commonly used for technical drawing, illustration projects.
There is also a signature which we have tried to find but cannot.
It is 41 cm long by 32 cm wide.
Please check details below.
