Late 18th/early 19th Century Creche Figure
A puzzling and intriguing find, this nativity scene creche/crib figure has one black eye, another starting to close and a bump on his head, hinting at a tale untold!
Crafted in Naples during the late 18th to early 19th century, this figure is a unique blend of polychrome terracotta, wood, straw, and metal.
Despite appearing as if he's been in a scuffle, he wears exquisite clothing, down to tiny, carefully handmade buttons, showcasing a fondness for finery.
Reflecting its age, the figure shows signs of wear on the clothes, and some paint has rubbed off on the head, legs, and feet.
Notably, there is damage to two fingers on his right hand.
Standing 37cm tall, he rests on a specially made base with a Perspex backrest.
This character stands out as exceptionally unusual, almost akin to a punk aesthetic and sparks curiosity about the individual he may have been based on.
