Lovely 18th Century Gussetted picture of a saint by legendary copper printer Johann Bussemacher.
These pictures were also known as Tinsel Prints (metal), Spickelbilder (embroidered), Adorned prints or Stoffklebebilder to describe extra-illustrated prints.
Bussemacher was one of the most prolific and well know copper printer's of his time at one point in Cologne, c.1580 – 1613 known for engravings of saints and maps.
Originally this was one of a set of 10, is 30 1/2 cm high, and 21cm wide (including frame) with beautifully dropped in fabric which has not faded too much, the colours still being quite vivid.
